If you get a new Apple TV for the holidays, check out this easy way to set it up. You won’t have to use that little remote to enter your passwords, select your network, set up your iTunes store account, or choose your language preference. Your iPhone is going to do it for you.
You have to have Apple TV software 6.0 or greater and an iPhone 4s or later for this to work. You can also use an iPad (3rd generation or greater), any iPad mini or an iPod touch (5th generation). If you have a second generation Apple TV it comes with Apple TV software 6.2. The third generation comes with 7.02. This won’t work with the first generation Apple TV.
Here are the steps.
Connect your Apple TV to your television. Make sure the Apple TV box is plugged into power. Make sure you are connected to the Wi-Fi network you want to use with Apple TV. (Settings > Wi-Fi) The first thing you will see is the setup screen.
Unlock your iOS device and ensure that Bluetooth is enabled. (Settings > Bluetooth)
Touch your iOS device to your Apple TV. Just laying it on top of the Apple TV box will work perfectly. Wait for prompts to appear on your iOS device and Apple TV.
You will be told to enter your Apple ID and password on your iOS device. Once you do that, you will be given the option to have Apple TV remember your Apple ID password.
Your Apple TV will start the configuration process, including connecting to your Wi-Fi network, activating Apple TV, and setting up your iTunes Store account which you must have to use Apple TV. When the automatic setup is complete you are done and ready to enjoy all the options available through Apple TV.
This is so easy to do and and I loved not having to use that little remote to enter all my information.
