Use Spotlight to Instantly Open Apps, Utilities, Documents

I think I have covered this before, but upon request, here it is again. One of the best features of Spotlight is the ability to bypass the Applications folder when you want to open an application (0r a utility or even a specific document).

You just have to set up the Spotlight preference to make it easy.

Choose the Apple Menu > Preferences > Spotlight. Click on the Search Results Tab.

Screen Shot 2013-03-14 at 2.08.47 PMMark those items with a check that you want included in any Spotlight search. If you mark Applications then they are always going to show at the top of the list. Close your preference pane and you are ready to go.

The next time you want to find a utility, say Terminal, just open Spotlight and start to type terminal and by the time you get to “ter” you will see terminal pop-up as your first choice. Same thing with an app such as AppZapper which you probably only open occasionally.

This is one of my  all time favorite short cuts.
