Save As Is Back!

Sing along with me please – Oh happy day, oh happy day….

With Mountain Lion there is an honest to goodness “Save As” option.  If you haven’t seen it, it’s because you haven’t found the secret.  Don’t feel bad.  I didn’t know about it until an expert told me about it.

All you have to do is hold down the option key when you click on the File menu. Where you usually see the Duplicate option, you will see the Save As option.

Are we all happy now?

I tried with a TextEdit file and the “Save as…” does not result in the expected function. It saves a new file but results in the original file being saved with any changes you have made.
It is NOT the “Save as…” as we knew it before !
You still need to duplicate the document and then save it with a new name.

Jiji – try using the new Rename function and see if that can keep you from having to use Duplicate. Even if you do have to use duplicate, the save as will save a couple of steps. I had not noticed the problem you mentioned because I am usually just saving to a new format (tiff to jpg), but your issue is valid.

Thank you for your blog, which I really enjoy. I learn a lot from it.
