When Clipping Files first came out they were like a lot of first generation things — OK. A lot of people tried them and forgot about them. But, wait, wait, there’s more.
Using a Clipping File allows you to find a bit of data you want to keep and drag it onto your desktop. Say you wanted to pull off the date, time and location of today’s meeting. Instead of opening a text file and copying and saving the information, you can just create a clipping file and then delete it when you no longer need it. You can even look at the clipping using Quick Look (tap the icon and tap the space bar). You can also highlight and save a portion of the item.
If you drag a URL or an email address as a Clipping File, Apple gives it a special icon and an Internet location file.
