Your Movie Won’t Play? Try This

Friday, May 2, 2008, 06:13 PM – Software

Sometimes when you try to watch a movie, maybe one you have downloaded, it won’t play. You will get an error message that tells you your Mac doesn’t recognize the kind of document or some similar message. If you are like me you only know how to play movies using QuickTime.

There is another option for you though. It is called VLC Media Player. It is free and you can find it at Version Tracker. Version Tracker is a site that carries links for downloadable software, both free and fee based. The authors of the software submit their software to Version Tracker and the site sorts according to platform and kind. You don’t have to wade through any software that doesn’t work on a Mac. You can search by subject or specific name.

Back to those movies. I keep VLC Media Player in my Dock. If I have problems opening a movie I just drag the movie icon over the VLC icon on my dock and almost always it will open right up and play for me.
