When you add an application to your Mac running OS X, which is a Unix based operating system, it puts bits and dabs of the application in different parts of your machine. If you decide to delete that application at some point, it can be really hard to find all those bits and dabs when you are a newbie. It is sort of like finding all those Easter eggs hidden by your “evil big brother”. It really never occurs to you to look in that birds nest in the top of the tree. If you are dealing with a damaged application, or god forbid, a Microsoft application, you are going to want to remove all of it before you install a fresh copy or just remove it entirely. Particularly with Microsoft applications you usually need to get rid of the old before you can install the latest versions. There is a nifty application that will help you with this process. It does not guarantee complete success with every application every time, but it is very good and worth the small price of U.S. $12.95 with free upgrades for life. The application is called AppZapper and you can get it at: http://appzapper.com/. You must be running Tiger or Leopard to use AppZapper. To use it open AppZapper. A small window will open, containing a small box image. Go to your applications folder and click on the application you want to delete and drag it to the small box image and release the mouse button. AppZapper will gather all the elements of the application and then ask you to confirm that you really want to delete. When you confirm, the application will be deleted. Nancy |
