I don’t know about you, but I use iChat all the time. It is a lot faster than conversing by email and it allows me to quickly send or receive URL’s or even photos in the middle of conversations. One of my children is looking at houses and she can send me links to the one’s she likes using iChat. It is a great feature of OS X.
If you don’t know how to use iChat, go to the Help menu and search for instructions on setting it up.
This particular tip has to do with saving your conversations. Sometimes you need to save them and it is very easy to do. You can always cull them later, but more than once I have needed to reference something discussed in an iChat and was very glad that I had saved a copy.
With iChat open, go to the iChat menu, select Preferences. Click on the Messages icon, and then put a check in the box next to “Automatically Save Chat Transcripts To”
As you can see from this image, there is a default folder called iChats which is automatically created and saved in your Documents folder. If you want them saved somewhere else, just so indicate it in the pull-down menu options.
That is all there is to it.
