You can add and subtract items from the Finder Sidebar to make it more useful to your own needs.
Start by opening the Finder Window. The easiest way is to select the Finder Icon from your Dock.
To access the Finder Preferences window click on any of the icons presently located in the sidebar, hold down the mouse button, and this contextual window will open. Move the mouse down to “Open Sidebar Preferences” and release.
The Sidebar Preferences window allows you to select – using check boxes, which items you want to show in the sidebar.
You also can add items from your desktop to the Sidebar using drag and drop. Place them at the end of the list under “Places”. To remove those kinds of items, just drag them to the desk top and they will disappear from the list.
