How To Compress A File

Wednesday, November 10, 2010, 01:25 AM – Tips and Hints

The usual reason for compressing a file is so you can email a large file to someone. Or, you may just want to save space on your on machine. Whatever your reason, it is amazingly simple to do it, and it is equally easy for a recipient of an emailed compressed (Zipped) file to open it.

Before you can compress a file using this method, the file must be closed. You want to locate it in your folder system and click once on it so that it is highlighted.

Then you go to the File Menu and select Compress. The word compress will be followed by the name of the document as demonstrated in this example.

As soon as you release the mouse button a zip file icon will appear on your desktop bearing the name of your document.

You can drag and drop the zipped file into an email or anywhere else you want it to go.

Double clicking on any zipped file will uncompress it.
