At the very least this will let you thumb your nose at the bad guys. At best it will add another layer of security to your computer.
These are the directions if you are running Leopard on your Mac. From the Apple menu choose System Preferences > Security > Firewall > Advanced. If you have things set up properly you will have to unlock the preference when you get to Security.
When you click on Advanced you will find two options. The first is Enable Firewall Logging. The second is Enable Stealth Mode. The one I am recommending is Enable Stealth Mode. Doing so “Ensures that any uninvited traffic receives no response — not even an acknowledgement that your computer exists.”
Click OK. Click on the padlock icon to lock the preference and you are good to go.
There are machines out there all the time, doing nothing but searching the Internet for information. Don’t let them have yours.
