The more applications that have to open when you turn on your computer, the slower the process, still, there may be reasons that you want some to always be open. The choice is yours. At the same time, some developers will build into their apps a feature that makes them automatically open when the computer is turned on. Check it out.
Choose System Preferences > Accounts > Login Items
You will find a list of applications that are set by their developers to automatically open when you start up your computer. You can hid them by clicking the box beside them, or delete them from the list by clicking on the name and then clicking on the minus sign below the list.
Conversely, you can add apps to the list by clicking on the plus sign and following the steps.
